Behind the Landscape on Alaska's Politics & Culture

In another move of political cronyism in Alaska, this time from the national level, the Obama Administration has contracted with one of their largest political supporters, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

For his support of Obama in 2008 and 2012 and support of many local political candidates around the country, Starbucks Coffee Company will replace all local community coffee vendors that have provided a service to its local veterans for years. Local coffee shop owners will no longer conduct business in their local VA Hospitals and clinics.

Alaskan local vendors and small businesses cannot compete with Washington DC and Big Corporate business lobbying. Alaskan small businesses cannot keep their shops open in a national institution facilities without their local Congressional delegations.

Alaskans have Senator’s Begich and Murkowski. Both have praised and profess to support Veterans, the VA and small businesses. Will they stand-up to the VA Administration to stop big corporate Starbucks from coming to our local VA Clinic and support locally owned and operated businesses?BegichMurkowski

VA has not made an overt announcement with this new deal to avoid local protest from small businesses. VA is slowly throwing out local vendors as the change has started in Sacramento and other California cities.

Will Veterans Pay the Price? Veterans and VA employees will pay Starbucks for contributions to political candidates.
